Review of "A video game to cope with grief" Ted talk

Amy Green: A video game to cope with grief

In this in Ted talk a woman named Amy Green is presenting a video game she helped develop about her son. Her son was diagnosed with brain cancer. The game is about his short life and the time that their family spent together with him. Its a game about coping with loss and she argues that "the hardest moments of our lives change us more than any goal we could ever accomplish." I thought her use of visuals was good. She used a combination of videos and pictures to help convey her message. The visuals were well placed with the pacing of the presentation. The whole presentation seemed well structured. She had a plan and delivered it nicely. The pacing from one point to the next was very fluid. It worked out nicely. She also engaged the audience with thought provoking questions and help support her argument. Although i think the most important part of the entire presentation was Amy's attitude. She was up on stage talking about a very hard time in her life, the loss of one of her children, and she did very gracefully. I was moved and overall i thought is was an fantastic presentation!

Social Media Presence - Blizzard Entertainment vs Nintendo

Blizzard's Social Media Presence
When googling Blizzard entertainment you immediately get links to their various social media accounts such as facebook and twitter as well as their youTube account and their official website.

By looking at the two screenshots you can clearly see that blizzard took time in thinking about how to create their social media accounts. It also seems clear that they understood the importance of having a good social media presence given their target audience. Since most of their games are on computers(using the internet) it makes sense that most of their player base uses social media quite frequently.

On their twitter account they do a good job of posting unique content as well as retweeting. They also have a separate customer service twitter handle that responds to requests fairly quickly.

I also think that their facebook page is set up nicely. They are actively posting content specifically for their facebook page as well as replying to comments that community members have made on their posting.

Overall I think Blizzard is doing a solid job with their social media presence!

Nintendo's Social Media Presence
I was pleasantly surprised at Nintendo's social media presence. I thought they might be reluctant to embrace social media but I like their social media pages. They have a good presence on google. As soon as you search you get links to their various social media profiles and their website.

It seems clear that Nintendo has recognized the advantages of having a good social media presence. This is another gaming company that realizes that gamers spend a lot of time on the internet and using social media. Having good social media profiles is probably the best way to reach their customers.

On their Twitter account they are really active. They are posting frequently as well as retweeting every so often. They also are posting content specifically for twitter and not just using twitter to direct people to other sites.

Their facebook page is set up similarly to their twitter which I think is fine because some users might only use one social media platform or the other. They also have good content and are posting regularly. The only problem i have with both of their social media profiles is their lack of interaction with their customers. It seems like their not replying to tweets on twitter or commenting on facebook.

Conclusion

Overall I think that both companies understand the importance of a good social media presence. It seems like they both have put effort into creating their various social media profiles and put work into updating them daily with posts. It seems that Blizzard is doing a better job at interacting with their community then Nintendo but I do believe that both companies are doing a solid job.

Hi my name is Ramon and i am a student at Milwaukee Area Technical College. I'm in the Network Specialist program. I chose MATC for two reasons. My first reason is because MATC is really affordable and I have a serious lack of funds at the moment. The Second Reason is because I heard really good things about the IT program that MATC offers and i wanted to check it out. The idea that really attracted me to MATC was their more "hands on" approach to teaching within the classroom. As students you get to work more with the various hardware and programs that will help give you an advantage when you finish your degree. With some of the other options around the Milwaukee area they don't give students as much of the hands on experience. That is why I ultimately landed at MATC and so far things are going good!
